My Name

My mom and dad chose not to know my gender until I was born, so they did not know I was a girl until March 31st 1990 when I entered the world. Because they did not know whether I was a boy or girl, they planned to have both a boy and a girl name picked out so that they were prepared for either. They decided on the boy name fairly quickly-Daniel. They did end up using that name for my younger brother 1 1/2 years later, but obviously not for me. My parents told me that they searched and searched, but could not find a girl name that they liked enough and could agree upon. Finally, shortly before I was born, they found the perfect name- Callie.

My dad was watching a John Wayne movie one day and the lead female character was named Callie. He heard the name, loved it, and remembered it for when my mom came home. When my mom walked through the front door he simply exclaimed, "Callie!" At that moment they both knew that Callie would be the name of their first daughter.

My name story is rather funny and does not have much "deep" meaning, but I absolutely love that a John Wayne movie provided the name that I will have for the rest of my life. I looked into the actual meaning of my name and found that it comes from the Greek word "kallos" which means beautiful, lovely.
